Follow up report of Certified Wheat Seed Donated by OFDA through AKRSP

Certified Wheat Seeds were distributed among the V/W/Os of LSO Chatorkhand on October 2010 for winter sowings. There were 30 beneficiaries.  One day workshop on wheat cultivation was held for those beneficiaries which was facilitated by Mr. Gari Khan (AKRSP Gilgit) on November
LSO visited those fields cultivated by the community two or three times. There were two types of seeds named Uqaab and Bakkhar. Followings are some clips and comments of the farmers during harvesting crops.
Few clips and commwents of the formers as following:
Mr. Maqsad Khan One of the beneficiary of these seeds. He was given the seeds of Bakkahr.
He said that he is satisfied with these crops and its better then local seeds and hoped to get 12 to 15 mounds from his field. He said that I could not adopt the methods of cultivation given by facilitator due to financial problem. I could reap 15 to 18 mounds if I was able to adopt the same way of cultivation.
Mr. Nazar Ali / Amir Ali is cultivated the seeds of Uqaab. He thanked the donors of these seeds and said that my field is full of crops and I hope I’ll reap 14 to 16 mounds of wheat this year. Whereas yearly production was 8 to 12 mounds.

Mr. Sardar Khan / Afsar Khan said I was cultivating “Bashkaliyan” (a local type of Wheat Seeds) from beginning from which I could reap a maximum quantity of 5 to 6 mounds per mound. Then I got seeds of “MH-97” in 2002-3 which was best one. I reap 15 to 16 from these seeds. Now I have cultivated “UQAAB” it seems it is also the best one but it takes time for getting ready for harvest.
I would suggest LSO, AKRSP and donors to provide certified seeds of “MH-97” which is suitable for our land and get ready earlier then the other seeds. Thus a farmer can cultivate Maize after harvesting wheat. He said that we have seeds if MH-97 but it got mixed with other ones therefore we could not get best results of it. It would be better if these seeds would certify. He confidently said that MH-97 is totally successful seeds for us. He thanked LSO, AKRSP and donors of these seeds at the end.
